Better Kind of Business: A Long Awaited New Approach to Doing Business
By Makeup Guru of The Event Makeup Artist
A new start-up has announced an untraditional business model, to say the least. These newcomers are causing a whirlwind in financial circles by challenging traditional means, and using the business as a platform to take a stand. The whole idea is to eliminate greed from their focus. In a time when businesses are collapsing left and right The Event Makeup Artist, a vocational course in beauty makeup artistry, donates a whopping 50% of profits to a charity, The Homeless World Cup. “We are in a financial crisis and the simple reason is because we all wanted more than we could afford. Large companies, driven by greed, accommodated our frivolous borrowing and spending. Now, not unsurprisingly, we are left with nothing but unfulfilled desires…” Gillian Sumlace, representative of The Event Makeup Artist analyzes the recent financial crash. “…History is repeating itself. That’s not good, we’re not learning from our mistakes. The real question has to be ‘How do we make sure this doesn’t happen again?’” Sumlace proposes this answer. She believes that creating new jobs, offering government aid, and so forth will ease tensions presently. Though to make sure that we do not repeat history again we must instigate a change in mind-set. We’ve made some bad decisions, so it’s time to change the way we think. Her solution is simply to eliminate greed or the constant craving for more and more money. So what makes The Event Makeup Artist so different? “We are not a charity. We are a company looking for a profit, but we’ve made it our mission to give back as much as we take.” There are no saints here. The Event Makeup Artist team is very clear about this. They are a for-profit business but understand that hording piles of money will not better their personal lives. They use a simple metaphor to explain. If you have a room full of apples, more apples than you could ever want to consume, why do you need to accumulate a second room full of fruit? Their story has piqued interest all over the world and is slowly but surely gaining a loyal following. Their idea is that if we can train ourselves to personally profit in a free market economy and at the same time keep our eyes open to others in need then the society as a whole will better. Though it may sound idealistic at first The Event Makeup Artist is living proof that it works. We can better each of our independent lives without stepping on or over our neighbors. It’s a scary thought to think that we may have alienated each other so extremely that we’ve forgotten the simple key to happiness, balance. By: Janet Briggs |
